RE: 4th of July
My work has a scheduled shut down the week of July 4th, so I rented a house in Town Creek, AL on Wilson lake (Tennessee River) July 1st - 5th.
Just Wendy and I going with the boat, so far. At least one of the boys will be home to care for the animals.

My thought was to go somewhere north in the hope that it may be cooler than Laurel, MS.
The place has it's own ramp and dock. Should be fun. Might suck. You never know. I just don't want to sit around the house for a week and two weekends again this year.

I plan to be in Robbinsville, TN July 25th - 28th with the YZF600R group.

After ride report:

So we toured around the Smokies in Stephanie’s 2015 Ford Expedition. A comfortable ride, plenty of room, the ideal grocery getter.
Saturday we exited Cades Cove via Parson Branch Rd. If you’ve never taken it before I highly recommend it. There is a warning sign at the gate the it is a primitive road, high clearance 4X4 vehicle required.
The road is mostly benign except for a few steep climbs and descents. I used 4- low once, and in hindsight if I had just disabled traction control 4- hi would have been ok. I was expecting to be alone on the road but it turned out I led a trail ride of one super duty, and three JKs. The Expedition handled it like a boss!
And bonus, Parson Branch exits onto US 129, The Tail of the Dragon. Here we are carving into a turn.

Sunday comes and the Expedition has to stand in for my mortally wounded Ram for the tow home. It handled the Kodiak like a champ.

Unassuming grocery getter, tow beast, trail boss, dragon slayer… Who knew??

You got the best of both worlds.  I'll bet it can make it to Gatlinburg and back, as well.  Lookaround

Wendy and I had a great week away.  The rental cottage was just as I pictured.  We did some boating each morning and played it by ear the rest of each day.  It sure was nice to get away as a couple for almost a week.  I can't wait until we can do that again.

I'm thinking about checking out Lewis Smith Lake next.  Ever been?

No, I haven’t.
Probably be a while before we can travel again.

Had a pharmacist quit at work, (bad for time, good for money) plus I’m probably about to spend $3500 to fix the truck. (Really bad for money.)

Apparently, it is a deep lake. 30 ft is shallow there. Some places are 200' deep.
It looks like the perfect lake for 'riding around', which is what we like to do.

I may plan a trip there for next year. Those vacation rentals are not something I can afford to do very often, but it was worth it in the end.
