Boat re-power project
Oil tank is hooked up. I marked the side as I put each gallon of oil in it.
I’m thinking about how to secure it as the current bracket won’t fit. BRP made a 3 gal bracket, but I haven’t run across one on eBay yet.
Tuesday I’ll start on the Boyesen reeds and intake stuffers.

RE: Boat re-power project
Maybe you can block the tank in with some stiff foam, like packing.
What does an intake stuffer do?

From The Chris Carson website:
Available now are intake stuffers that mount between the reed blocks and intake manifold, reducing the crankcase volumn by moving the reeds toward the crankcase .065 in. Resulting in the exact same gain as the common practice of milling the front half of the crankcase, but without the need to tear down the motor and the machine shop work. This is an inexpensive modification that is easily done while changing reeds.

Who are the brainiacs that figure this stuff out? Pretty sure it's guys with long winters.

So, I did some math.
The runners are 6 inches by 1.5 inches by roughly 6 inches deep. 54 cubic inches.
Volume of the spacer is .585 ci. (6x1.5x0.065)
So I’m reducing the volume by 1% (more or less).
The theory is sound, I can see this benefiting a 750cc motorcycle engine greatly, but a big 3.3L outboard? I’m skeptical, but since I’m already tearing into to it, why not?

Yesterday while I was working in the back yard I dropped one of those tiny screws.
Found it.

Boat re-power project
So today I moved to the garage. It was cold this morning.
I wound up having to re-do the one cage I got done yesterday. I was having issues with gapping. The instructions mentioned that there is supposed to be tape on one side of the reed and that goes down. There was no tape on mine. I called Boyesen and learned Evinrude reeds are not taped and you just have to check to see which side lays flatter, but up to 20 thousandths gap is ok. Trial and error on the cage was very time consuming and after three hours I only had two done.
Then I started checking them on a piece of plate glass. I could quickly discern which way it curved and how to install it. I got pretty good at it and the last two cages only took about 30 minutes each.
The last pic shows the stuffer under the cage.
Not sure why it’s a stuffer and not a spacer.

By the way, I was using the glass and some 1000 grit sandpaper to make sure the cage surfaces were flat.

Nice work. I see how the stuffers work, now.
Worth the time to get it right, that's for sure. Those should serve you well.
It's great to see you making good progress, finally.
I'm still waiting for backordered spot-facing tools before Lock n Stitch ships my order, last I checked. I can wait, now.
I still have the bike apart and the tractor to fix. Warm weather came early and I've been incapacitated with the Crud for a week so far. (Tested negative for covid and flu.)

Back together and running.
Next up, I found a guy that can reprogram the EMM, (the computer), to 250 hp.
Mechanically, the 200, 225, and 250 are identical with the computer software determining the rated horsepower.
