Boat re-power project

RE: Boat re-power project
I always used aftermarket reeds in my dirt bikes. Two-stage to work better at all rpms. Cheap and easy upgrade.

My next move is from a 19P aluminum 3-blade to a 17P aluminum 3-blade. I bought mine used on eBay. I just want to get in the ballpark as cheap as I can. So far I have gotten good props.
I think my OMC drive may have the same splines and your outboard. Same as Evinrude/Johnson from what I understand.

RE: Boat re-power project
Sure have. It's the only brand I've used besides OEM. No problems.

Boat re-power project
I currently have the 1.8 gallon oil tank, however, I noticed the levels drop fairly fast so I’ve been considering ordering the 3 gallon for extra capacity. My concern was will it fit in the space it needed to go? Since the boat was covered I wasn’t going to pull it off just for that.
So today as part of my cold prep, ( lows in the 20s through Christmas), I had to empty the fresh water tank on the boat. I forgot it when I covered it.
While I was crawling around in the boat I checked fitment of the larger 3 gallon oil tank.

I’m watching one on eBay, and the lister was thorough enough to post pictures of measurements.

I don’t want it to block the battery switch, which is behind the oil tank.

I made a cardboard mockup of the 3 gal.

Looks like the 3 gal is a go!

In other news, I snagged a 4-blade RX-4 prop for the princely sum of $112. (They are $700 new)

You may or may not can see it is bent slightly. I will take it to a prop shop and have it reconditioned. That should cost about $200. I can always sell it and recoup my investment if the boat doesn’t like it.

That's really wise making a cardboard mock-up. Smile

I saw the dent on the prop. My eyes went right to it. Wink

Came out great!
I still need to get started on the block crack repair on mine so it's ready for Spring.  I've been busy knocking out more pressing chores and making excuses.
Thanks for keeping it on my mind.  I'd hate to miss another boating season.

So this is the exhaust back pressure fitting.

Only mine looks like this.

And did this to the hose connected to it.

And….

It was apparently cross threaded into the mid section and the treads are all boogered up.

RE: Boat re-power project
I assume it burned up from lack of water pumpage?

I was tinkering on my flotation device yesterday as well. I pumped out the year-old gas, and vacuumed out the leaves. I aim to get the crack fixed on the side of that engine block, and then pull the whole thing out to the driveway to run it and give it a deep clean.

I can't believe I didn't use it at all last year. That's just sinful.
