The inner passage is where the water comes up, fills the space around the exhaust passage before moving up to the engine. Then comes back down the outer passages and the exhaust. The discolored areas I believe indicate that water was crossing over and passing back out, bypassing the engine. A short-circuit, if you will.

I see what you're saying about the passages. Also, the bottom end of the old tube looks rough compared to the new.
You'll win this battle from the looks of it. It pays to be thorough.

Well, I'm stumped... Undecided

Still getting a hot alarm, low water pressure.

So, it went to a repair shop today.

Boat update:

Got the boat back today and it’s fixed!
Ran around Grand Bay and out to the west end of Dauphin Island. Temp stayed at 130 just like it’s supposed to.

Things they did:
1. Found debris in some water passages.
2. Put on a new updated pressure relief valve.
3. Put a new impeller in the water pump. Apparently the one I just installed was bad.

RE: Boat re-power project
I'm educating myself about these engines and how they work.  (Mainly to find opportunities to mod it.)   Smile

Here is a brief, but interesting article on how e-tecs work.

https://injectorservice.com/evinrude-etec-fuel-system.

I think my first step will be aftermarket reeds.
For those that don't know, reed valves are like a check valve behind the throttle body to prevent back flow on a 2-stroke engine.
Here are some references as to why you would want to do this.

Also, the 17 pitch propeller a bought is apparently too much.  I'm going to drop to a 15 pitch.  Preferably a 4 blade, if I can find a good deal on one.
