New door hinges today. Surprisingly easy job if you have a reliable helper like my friend Pittsburgh Hoist.
I ordered a set of Dorman brand replacements through ebay, and was sent Chinese knock-off parts. The cheap ones say "plated pins" while the Dorman description said "hardened pins".
You're darn right I returned the knock-offs! I was pretty cheesed with that seller.
Better worn originals than junk. I'd rather have a loose door than a door on the floor.

I also got a really nice dash mat. These can really help keep your dash from getting so hot you can't touch it. That really affects how well your ac works.
It also hides the cracks. Wink

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm angry. Man could not finish the wide body in 1 year. But it is sad offtopic. Silverado is better.

**BREAKING NEWS**
NO MORE OIL LEAKS!!!
I waged a final assault on the leaks in the greyeen truck and finally emerged triumphant!

I decided to replace the oil pickup tube o-ring, which requires dropping the pan. Not a cheap or easy repair, but the symptoms were all there; lower oil pressure in cold weather than in warm. That's the opposite behavior of cold oil vs warm oil. That is the telltale clue that an LS engine's o-ring is failing due to age.

Oil was seeping out of the pan gasket, so that was aged-out as well.
This was one of the reasons I wanted a 2wd truck. No front axle in the way of the pan. Just a simple crossmember.

The worst leak was the o-ring on the crank position sensor. I special- ordered the o-ring and it worked perfectly.

I topped it off with a complete chassis lube, new oil and filter.
Today was a good day, Tater.[Image: 78bce030b2359f1abf9184d59bfb3d59.jpg][Image: 63041d37030c64d3d385064c6c01ab82.jpg][Image: d3e301b88492964111e33e01e2ef0ce8.jpg][Image: 5ba363f37b8e8e6ff5de177322813bc5.jpg][Image: 24ecb1ec34a6448e2c645f518aa650db.jpg][Image: efcdedd1abbd3f41092da5e6e279f143.jpg][Image: a38e51b2fe806e105680e14daff20aca.jpg]

RE: Another Silverado
Everything seemed pretty good until I got a Low Oil warning this Saturday evening. Found out it was leaking worse than ever!
I threw a bottle of stop leak in the new oil for what it's worth, hoping to stem the flow.

After church on Sunday, I replaced the o-ring on the Cam position sensor. That went well, considering that it is behind the intake manifold, out of sight. It fixed that leak, but only narrowed it down to the rear main seal and/or the rear engine plate gasket.

So this coming weekend I will be removing the transmission to do that job. Hoping it goes easy with being 2wd and all. This is actually one reason why I was looking for a 2wd version. Simplicity has its merits.

RE: Another Silverado
I made good progress on the rear seal and rear plate replacement.
It turned out to be a real struggle physically because my eyes fog over when I lie on my back and look up (all the eye surgeries) and now I have arthritis in my right shoulder that has reduced my range of motion and causing me pain.

I was regretting starting this job, but Dustin came by on Saturday and helped me get the transmission out.

Sunday, after church, I was able to replace the seal and plate, and then start putting things back. I stabbed the transmission by myself and got it bolted to the engine. The crossmember and a new mount are in place, but loose. That's where I ran out of light.

I got farther than I thought I would. I should be able to finish up in a couple more hours next Saturday, weather permitting. It is slow going because I work mostly by feel, but like I say about my Harbor Freight winch; "At least I'm moving."
We'll get there when we get there. Smile

I need to replace mine as well. A lot easier to do when it's up in the air.
