Silverado2500 superduty axle swap and more

RE: Silverado2500 superduty axle swap and more
This past week I got my rear bumper brackets finished up. I gathered some parts to get her running Saturday morning. Bolted the brackets on Saturday sometime.

I drilled 4 holes in the plate 2 to match the back holes on the spring hanger and then the last 2 on the frame. The primed metal on the out side of the frame as well as the spring hanger act as big washers to sandwich the bumper bracket to the frame. This prevents the bolts from just ripping through the frame.

Sunday after church I removed my passenger side knuckle off of my Dana 60 to get ready for a highsteer arm. Stripped it down, pressed out the ball joints and cleaned it up. Monday I shipped it to Four Wheel Supply in Virginia. They are going to machine the top, drill the arm for a GM TRE, install and ship it back to me for 180 bucks (arm included). Can't beat that with a stick.

Got my knuckle back from four wheel supply. Looks like it'll get the job done.

Took advantage of WFO concepts Thanksgiving sale and got free shipping on a set of frame plates. These will give the frame a little sleeker look.

I am going to try to have the axle mocked up under the truck before New Years but we will see. Trying to figure out if I wanna stick with a factory coil bucket or make some, just haven't found anything I really like. The coilsprings im gonna be running are Superlift 8.5 to 9 inch lift coils that fit a 79' ford. Radius arms are another thing I can't figure out what I want. I know I'm gonna be using the factory mount/bushings on the axle side and Currie Johnny joints for the frame side. At this point I'm not even sure if I can have any DOM tubing here before the end of the year, nobody stocks it around here. I still haven't started the motor yet, still need down pipe assembly, the right O2 sensors, neutral saftey, and finish putting it all together.

With all that being said, any ideas, suggestions, or design ideas I'd love to hear or see them.

Surely there is a spacer that goes between, right? Unsupported bolts like that will not hold up to much.

Only the 2 you can see in the picture is like that. I was wondering the same thing when it came in. I will probably be putting a spacer in when I take it all apart for paint when I take the axle back out for gearing.

if you end up doing hi-steer on a super duty 60 in the future take a look at the weld on brackets from jesse haines fab.

Not sure if I will but if I do I'll keep that in mind. I do like the new 60s so maybe this won't be my last build.

Does any body see a down side to running 2.5" links with a .5" wall vs the normal 2" .25" wall other than weight? I can get a pretty good price on about as much as I want.

It might be like running with ankle weights. All of that unsprung weight has to move over every bump. Too much weight, and it will hinder the springs' and shocks' ability to control the movement.
Is it too heavy? I have no idea. But that would be the down side.

I guess it's time to break out the math book. I guess in theory the one heavy link would be like running 2 smaller links.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Now it's time for me to dive back into the 2500. I got my tires on my front axle so I could move it around. Next step is to get all the ifs cut out, it's gonna be warm this weekend so I can do all that cutting and grinding outside. I'll get the axle under the truck for mock up get a few last measurements and get the rest of my parts ordered.
