Guns! what ya got.

RE: Guns! what ya got.
I emailed my brother and he had this to say(in the bold, the rest is quoted):

Not gonna happen. I've done hours and hours of research on s#!t like this. Obama isn't going to jeopardize the US gun laws. I grabbed this from a post on a message board:

Obama has passed more gun rights laws and repealed more gun restrictions in his first term than G.W. Bush did in eight years. Lets look at some.
Here are highlights of pro-gun victories since 2009:

- Since taking office Obama has resisting attempts to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban or curb the extended clips

— In 2009, Obama enacted legislation permitting firearms in national parks.

— In 2009, Arizona and Tennessee passed laws letting people carry guns in bars.

— In 2010, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to extend federal gun-rights protections to states.

— In 2010, Louisiana approved a bill letting people carry firearms in houses of worship.

— In 2010, Arizona passed a law letting people carry concealed weapons without a permit. In 2011, Wyoming enacted the same law.

— In 2011, the U.S. House of Representatives passed, with considerable bipartisan support, a bill that makes a firearm-carry permit in one state valid in every other state.

— In 2011, Mississippi enacted legislation allowing people to carry firearms on college campuses, and in bars and churches. Later that year, the measure was expanded to include sporting events, polling places, airports, courthouses and other government localities.

— In 2011, North Dakota and Texas passed legislation to ensure that employees may bring a gun to work, as long as it’s locked in a vehicle.

— In 2011, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and New Hampshire put into effect versions of Florida’s “stand your ground” law, granting people broad latitude to use lethal force when they perceive a threat to their safety.

The list does not include NRA victories at beating back gun-control efforts, such as prohibiting people on a government-designated terror watch list from buying a firearm, or closing a loophole that allows sales of weapons at gun shows.

President Obama, meanwhile, is the best friend the NRA has ever had. While they portray him as a constant and ominous liberal threat, the president has in reality been an ostensible ally. During his first two years in office, Obama signed laws that brought guns into national parks and Amtrak trains, while resisting attempts to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban or curb the extended clips used in the Arizona rampage that nearly killed Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

“Last week, one journalist wrote that the National Rifle Association ‘should erect a statue of Barack Obama in front of its D.C. headquarters’ because he ‘has done more for firearm owners than any President in recent history.’ Avoiding the gun issue has done nothing to stop or slow the political attacks from the gun extremists.”

Most of the quoted is state level law that could be contested by federal.

The way that I see it is I abide the 2nd amendment. Right to bear arms. I do a lot of traveling for work and I never know what kind of environment I'm going to be sent to while on the job site. I recently did a lot of work in a federal park in NOLA. While working closely with these federal park officers, they discovered that we were packing a 40mm Glock with us. Once they discovered this, they had this to say
"I don't blame you guys for carrying. Even though ya'll are in a national park, due to the fact that the weapon is not on your hip there is nothing we can really do."
Awesome!

bought a used glock model 22 (40cal) today. It came with night sites already on it. I'm pretty excited to go shoot it tomorrow.

I love my Glock. It shoots really well and although not very accurate after about 30 or so yards I mainly bought it for personal protection and to carry as a side arm in the woods when hunting. I have already put about 10 mags through it and it didn't gum up too bad while doing so. simple scrub with an old tooth brush cleaned it right on up.
Awesome!

I watched a hunting show once where the hosts used the Glock to hunt NA big game. They used a 10mm and a 40cal, IIRC.

I pretty much love it.

A few things I was worried about when purchasing it used were the slide spring and the mag spring, if the night sights were still good, and the rifling.
Something I've always been a little worried with about glocks are the thick frame from the double stack mag.

So the first night I left the gun in my dark room while I slept. I woke up about 3 and the first thing I saw was the night sights. So i'd say they're still good. Rifling looks worn but still there. We shot it Saturday and Sunday with no problems at all except having trouble loading the 15th round in the mag. I'd say the spring for the slide is still good, broke in. and the mag spring is very good, may have even been replaced recently.

The thick grip is not as bad as I thought it would be while shooting. Katie was even able to shoot it with no problem once she got use to it. The first few shots were shaky but she adjusted quickly.

So overall I'm very impressed with the gun especially with it being used.

One thing I do need to do is adjust the rear sight. I'm consistently shooting slightly to the left.
