RE: Project: SAS the FM
do you plan on doing links up front or leafs? the 79 axle is not a good starting point though due to the cast radius arm mounts. if you plan on using the ford radius arms you can make it work but otherwise i would look for a different axle to start with. the 78-79 f150 d44s have a cast outer secion where the radius arm mounts are and there isn't an axle tube under that section so if you cut it off then there is nothing to weld to.

Just curious, why not a Toyota front axle? or a Jeep D30?
I'm guessing so he can re-use the coil buckets on the 44 instead of fabbing some on a Toyota axle. And the D30 wouldn't hold up to enough abuse.
REALLY?
a toyota front axle is a passenger side drop, he needs the driver side drop

RE: Project: SAS the FM
its possible to make a yota axle drivers drop with a little bit of work. flip the housing, cut/flip the ball/knuckles and redrill a couple holes for the third member. but it will probably still be narrower than his rear axle

That works for me, I should be home all afternoon. What time did you have in mind?
I have to replace the brake booster in the wife's van as soon as I get home. I'll call you around 7 maybe.

I plan to narrow it and use the radius arms. with coils.

Actually, I never said that. I said that I reserve the right to pick on anything that I do not currently own. I would own a Jeep. They just don't suit my needs at the moment.
Now a Ford, on the other hand.......
All parts are fair game. I have several brands of parts grafted into my truck, including GM and Jeep. Anything can be asimilated.
