What I am saying is not to use chemical cleaners at all for weld prep.
Also, phosgene is created in the presence of argon. The argon is introduced during the mig or tig welding, provided you are using an argon/CO2 mix.

Why in the world would someone want to use a degreaser to prep a weld, anyway? You can weld right through a film of oil. (Water is a different story. )

If you use those products at work, you should be able to lay your hands on the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for that product. It should spell out the hazards.
If you use that product at work and do not have an MSDS, you may have found something else to address.

As a firefighter, I learned that phosgene is also produced when a refridgerant is burned (fridges, freezers, air conditioners).

Yeh --- When i started the D21 Dozer i began welding again after 30 years ( i was rusty as hell and my welds were crap) and i noticed that i was getting sick welding inside the Shed..

I work with chemicals everyday have done for 7 years,,, yeh you have to be very careful what you mix with what .. my business partner nearly killed himself with chlorine gas, also if you mix hydrochloric acid (which i use all the time) with even a few drops of liquid chlorine you get saran gas that WILL kill you...

yall outta seen what we had to go through to weld / grind on eqpt painted with C.A.R.C. (chemical agent resistant coating) paint in Afghanistan. that is some nasty stuff.
