This is my 2006 Century 2301 center console.
The Yamaha F225 has a cracked or corroded starboard cylinder head.
I have talked to several dealers and repair shops. Consensus is 4-6 weeks before they can even look at it, and absolute best case scenario is minimum $6,000 to repair and more likely $12,000.
We decided re-powering with a used motor is the quickest route back on the water.
This is a 2008 Evinrude ETEC 225. I made a road trip to Baton Rouge to pick it up.
It rode to work with me today because I haven’t fully worked out how I’m even getting off my truck.
I’m going to attempt to swap the motors myself.
This will be a daunting job.
I’m a bit intimidated.
Challenge accepted.

Off the truck.
I found the operator, service, and installation manuals online.
I have a roadmap now, it’s doable.

I've always thought that outboards were easier than i/o because they just clamp onto the transom.
You need an A-frame and hoist.

Yeah I have a hoist somewhere, it wasn’t where I thought it was.
It sounds simple like that, but the Evinrude weighs 517 lbs and the Yamaha is 551 lbs. That makes moving them challenging when you don’t have a shop to work with.
Since I’m changing brands, all of the controls and instruments will have to be changed out.

Did the controls come with the Evirude?

I did get controls, whether the cables are long enough I don’t know yet.
Existing steering will work.
Got a tachometer, but will probably have to buy other gauges.
I’ve also been prepping to go to Texas later this week. This project will launch after Memorial Day.

The goal for today was clean the work area, build a stand, and get the motor vertical.

The paint is going to need a touch up.

And that Raker II prop is not appropriate for my boat.
I’ll have to get a different one.
