With all the clanking sound that I heard with the last outing I decided to checkout the rear diff. I know that the front needs some work as well but this is what I did today.

I couldn't get the center pin out so I said "JEEP IT" weld it anyway. I know that it doesn't look pretty with these pics but I cleaned it out really good and got 3/4 of the slag out, as much as I could for the most part. I drove it home and nothing broke so I must have something right for the most part then. It drives alot different now. Makes me wonder if I should do the same to the front now W00t2 W00t2
Looks good, You gonna join us at tellico?

WhinoCaballo

I don't know about that yet. I'm going to test it out tomorrow and see if it's going to hold up. I got a buddy of mine going with me just in case i break something. If you read this Redneck we're going to St Martin to test it all out.

WhinoCaballo

I'm not going to Tellico my kids are going to be here and I'm going to TX so they can see they're grandparents.

WhinoCaballo

Oh yea this is what I found on the bottom of my diff Ranting Eyebrow

Not pretty, but a good decision. Considering the condition of those spider gears, welding was an obvious choice.
That's what I call making lemonade from lemons. Good job. Thmbup

Be sure to clean it out again once you drive it a little bit. You don't need that spatter and flux circulating through the bearings. Oil is cheap.

WhinoCaballo

Yea once I saw them gears in there i figured it was time

Yomie

i've had my trash-lock 8.8 welded for 2 years with 37's and daily street use, held up fine, my 14Bff will most likely be welded also with 40's and daily streeet use

Weldeed front and rear on the trail is a pain to turn, you gotta give yourself plenty of room, 5 point turns if your following jeeps

WhinoCaballo

naw i think i'm going to use a detroit or something that will still let me turn if needed.
When you wheel a suburban, it takes alot to turn even with without a locker in the front.
