Compression tested the engine yesterday.
1. 215
2. 215
3. 215
4. 215
5. 175
6. 215
7. 195
8. 200

Found one rod installed incorrectly, and one bent rod. Which may have been the same rod as lost track of which rod was the mis-aligned one before I realized I had a bent one. It was either 4 or 6.
I had ordered a full set of push rods from Rock Auto last week.
It was 6:30 getting the engine buttoned back up but it cranked and ran smoothly although I still have a tick.

I’m getting 2 codes, air intake temperature sensor and cam position sensor.

I had some water in the crankcase from the head gasket fiasco. I drained that and put in fresh oil, but I saw it was still milky doing the compression tests.
This may be causing my tick and the cam position sensor code. Today’s shopping list includes both sensors and some Marvel Mystery Oil.

Other codes cleared up.

Cylinder 8 misfire. Back under the valve cover I go.

The 1st treatment with Mystery Oil did well, 2nd treatment will wait on the misfire to get cleared.

Cam sensor is a magnetic deal. May have some shavings collected on it.

Old one was clean when I pulled it out. Got both sensors for less than $50 so that was an easy fix.

I pulled the valve cover yesterday and everything looks ok. Push rods were right, rocker arms were opening the valves as they should. I re checked #8 compression and it was 205.

It’s going to a shop now.

Could be a spark (coil) or injector-related issue. Swap something and see if the misfire moves to a different cylinder.

The tapping… if it wasn’t for that

I did swap coils to rule that out, from the look of the plug I pulled out, it’s getting fuel and spark.

Oh. I didn't realize it was still tapping. I thought it was just a misfire.
Well dang. Sad
