Got this from a buddy for some NDT tires a few months ago. Thought I'd start a thread for the sake of keeping everything in one place.
SO I wanted to build this Jeep for the EC4WDA racing events but I doubt it'll ever happen.
The tub is in poor shape. I don't want to spend a lot of time or money on fixing it as it'll just get beaten up again.
I do want to run a fuel cell so I'll have to do something about the rear floor. On the corners and rockers, I was thinking diamond plate. The hat channels need to be replaced. Wheelhouses are about as good as the rest of the tub. I'll see what I can't procure to do some mending on the tub.
Not the right way but I think it'll be fine once I'm finished. I did take some sandpaper and paint to the back of the "patch" panels. Better than bondo imo.
Axles are out, all the stock steering junk is gone, and the frame is almost bare. I brushed on some red oxide primer where I got areas of the frame wire wheeled.
I don't know what the rear axle will be yet but I do want to get my hands on a D30 for the front.
Don't mind my tire emporium.
I've decided to go with OE YJ springs and shackle reversal...
I'm going to get some square tubing for the frame horns, 3/16 plate, and round tube? for replacing the factory crossmember. I'll be on the lookout for some springs so I can start figuring out where and how to mount them.
Well here it is. There is some wire wheeling and other misc. cleaning I still need to do but this is pretty much what I'm going to patch.
I don't have a bandsaw so every cut I make from here out is by my unsteady hands and weak eyesight with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel.

I killed another sawzall but I got the frame horns done. I will cut some fishplates to further secure the tubing. I have one side tacked in place and I have been practicing my welding.
Running a flux core lincoln 100hd running .030 wire. Left side was my initial test run. Increased wire speed and it made a huge improvement (to me).
So I stacked some junk up to support the tubing and leveled it to try and get a good straight cut. Worked pretty good.
