Brandon my youngest is planning on going into the AF after high school, you guys aren't helping dad's feelings one little bit.

O well got to kick his big arse out sooner or later.
I think the military is a wonderful choice for some of todays youth. I'm almost thirty one years old and i learned a hell of alot from my service. Not to mention that he will get a large dose of responsiblity, in turn he'll grow up and mature faster than most his age. He'll also get an opportunity to educate himself at little cost, as long as he fulfills his montgomery gi bill, which he can do out of his first year of service, think its a little over a hundred bucks a month for a year....in turn you can get a four year degree with that little amount of money! He'll also get to travel and see things in his life that he would normally not get to see, thats the part in enjoyed in my service......Here i am now, two years out of the service and im a supervisor for the largest foreign owned construction company in asia....there are alot of retired military guys that own some big companies all over the world that will give a prior service person a position over somebody else, only because they know the job will get done and they can trust who they have working for them! I only wish i could go back and enlist earlier in my life, i would be so much farther ahead now. Im sure there are people out there that will disagree with me, but the military put me where i am today......My family and i are very thankful of that with the way the economy is right now! This is just my two cents on the issue.
My parents had the same concerns as you do and thats normal. I know i sound like a recuiter but thats not my intentions. I know you think if he joins that he'll instantly be shipped off to some war zone somewhere, never to return.....Thats just not the case anymore, he needs to think of what he's interested in for a career and get some good training, and be selective when he picks his job, that is his choice....the job you pick decides where in the world they're gonna send you, he needs to remember that!
speakin of double tap (military says that that is to brutal of a term double tappin they now refer to it as "controlled pairs". Yea so here i am in the desert at Shindand FOB. yea go ahead and try finding it. youtube somes it up pretty well. We don't even have any rounds. Supposed to have 7 mags with 30 rounds each but yet to see any ammmo. I like fighting terrorsist with their own weapons (rock throwing). As far as gettin shipped to a war both marines and Army do a year long( may even be back to back) in the desert where the AF still only commits 6mos. however they are tryin to change that. AF gets tasked more to the desert nowa days, still not a bad gig we still have better QOL (quality of life) than the other branches. Maybe I am one sided as my dad was in the AF as well but had a couple uncles in the NAvy and army as well. But even now the Army keeps comin up to me and are like man wish I joined the AF ya'll have it made. The AF makes it so there is no excuse not to get your degree as there seems to be alot of down time especially on the communications side. Now if ya work on the flightline different story as those folks get taken advantage of.
