I actually did that. I was 18 at the time. I had fixed up an old van and bought new chrome rims and new tires for it. It was Friday night when I got them mounted, and I was stoked about showing off my new bling.
The right front wheel had a tiny leak at the seam that ran across the rim. I figured I could use a torch and coat hanger to seal it. Turns out that chrome conducts heat away like crazy. I had to hold that torch on there a long time before I could form a puddle.
The next thing I knew, the tire was buldging. I quickly rolled it over to the garden hose and started to cool it off. BAM! the sidewall blew out, and I was screwed.
I guess I deserved to ride around with one stock wheel as punishment for my vanity, impatience, and stupidity.

Had it been a tougher tire, I probalby would nave been badly hurt. I was lucky that it was just a light truck tire that buldged before it blew.
That is pretty crazy I liked how he said the tire can blow up with you using a torch on lug nuts to loosen them because I know that if there tight or having alot of problems comming off people are like oh use a torch heat em up.. LOL I'm gonna rember this for a long time because that looked pretty serious. Good post
i was working at gateway tire in ridgland a few years ago and the guy runnin the tire machine next to me was mouning some trailer tires on some 15 inch rims... the bottom bead broke on the tire and id blew strait up and bounced off the ceiling and smoked a car... me and a few other people was scattered all over the place tryin to hide from that wheel and tire... the guy was lucky he was leaning over to get the valve core and valve core tool or it woulda prolly killed him.

Had someone been heating the rim? Confused1
ha... no... just a bead failiure... i know its not heat rim related.. but it is stuff blowin up related. ALWAY be careful around tires and compressed air.. its under WAY more pressure than your body can stand
