Okay as a 4-wheeler, we have all spent some time in a junk yard lookin for a part. Well, Im stumped and need some help. All the Cherokees in my area all have AC on them. My AC has not worked since I got it, and I dont plan on fixing it. Here lies the problem. Of course Jeep engineers and their vast wisdom put the pulleys on a I6 in a way that you cannot just bypass the compressor with a shorter belt. Do that, and water pump will spin the wrong way. On Cherokees that do not have AC, there is a bracket with an idler pulley in place of the compressor ( top passenger side). I NEED THAT BRACKET AND PULLEY. Sorry to yell, but cannot find it anywhere. Was on duty yesterday, nothin to do at the fire house on Saturday so, spent 4 hours on the net tryin to locate one. Nuthin. Hopefully ya'll will have some good news for me.
Sorry no go on the bracket and pulley but you might look at the water pump. I know that there are two different water pumps, one for serpentine belt and one for v belt. Wait what engine do you have I am talking about a In line 6 cyl. Both pumps looked the same one turned one way the other turned the other way. Pulleys would interchange, easy to get mixed up. Things like that sure make life intreasting later down the road for some poor soul.
What engine you running? If it's 4.2L I might have the bracket. I bought an engine to replace in my YJ Wrangler which had a number of brackets. If you have a pic of what it looks likes I'll dig through my parts.

Cherokees never had the 4.2L
I know you will flip when you read it but....
Try the dealer, sometimes searching for stuff, burning gas, time etc you may have paid for the part from the dealer. I will be following you on your quest, as I have a 93 XJ 4.0L I am putting in my 87 YJ soon, It has the compressor as well. I am going to check the pick and pulls down here for a Yankee XJ first though. It's not a part you will see listed on an an online junkyard either.
I'll check the j/y around here and let you know.
is it a braket you could make and just put a pully on it!

that is if you could get it balanced and centered maybe not!

I have thought about that , make it bolt up to the 4 bolt holes that the compressor bolted to and run a pully centered where the compressor was. OR get a sanden compressor w/ crank case and run on board air. I also have considered this route.Cool
Kind of a old post don't you think.

Ok what did you do? Eyebrow Since it popped up again I figured since I am facing the same thing....
Does the 4.0 have two different rotation water pumps? You might be able to change the water pump and run a shorter belt. Water pump is what about 25.00 bucks. I know you can on a 258.
