Not sure which of the tech forums this should go under, depends on what happens.....Tra, oh Master Mechanical Guru Person, why don't you chime in here....., oh yeah, 1990 full Size Bronco, 351W Auto, 6"lift and 35's with stock gears, ls rear, open front....

Been having this ungodly grinding/roaring sound, comes on when I go above 50 on the speedometer (keep in mind I have 35's ant 3.55 gears, so about 8 miles higher than showing.....used my best guesstimate, hoped for bearings, replaced bearings and seals, drove it, same thing happened, at a loss, took it to a very trusted mechanic, who heard it and said "Oh shizznit, what the F***is that?" Not the reaction I wanted...he will look, maybe concentrating on either Ujoints or drive shaft.....hubs not locked, got manual hubs, Tcase not engaged, so must not be front?.

Any ideas from the peanut gallery? Confused
Try rotating your tires left to right / right to left so that they roll in the opposite direction from what they are used to.

Carrier (a.k.a. center support) bearing on the driveshaft?

When you changed the wheel bearings, were the outer races loose? Could you possibly rotate the outer race with your fingers?

Bad muffler bearings? Here is a good source for those: (Clicky)

Considering that it is an intermittant problem, consider replacing your intermitter with a rebuilt unit. A faulty intermission system will make you pull your hair out.

O.K. The last two were jokes. :o
where does the sound come from, frt/rear or middle and left/right?

hey res, I'd say it sound more like this http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_pag...ucts_id=27 j/k
Reserector, The muffler bearings were good, so was the head lamp fluid bearings. and the wiper fluid bearings....did pretty good, and were right next to the right handed screw drivers and just below the sky hooks....
no no no you guys got it all wrong the problem is with your exhaust this will fix your problem Rolleyes Wink <---

Or if you really wanted to you could run duals. P <--

Sounds like front middle, but you know how sound can be tranmitted..
I am thinking Ujoints or maybe drive shaft out of balance....what do you think?
I say go with the Dual O-Pipes and three Boost Bars and call it good.

Check your engine and tranny mounts for metal to metal cantact. Also check suspension bushings. Any that are shot could transmit driveline noise.
Basicly crawl around underneath and stare awhile.
I think I got it narrowed down, either bad drive shaft or the CV joint is bad, will probably get a reman drive shaft, new CV and a CTM...even if it don't fix the problem, it is needed.

I was thinking of the front area then saw this quote. does it change when you turn the wheel back and forth (slightly mind you) to see if the sound changes. also, what about the fan shroud ( I know its a long shot) but at that speed the rush of air being pushed up into the eng compartment could move the shroud into the fan if its loose at the bottom.
