went and played a little this morning, being careful and all, nothing serious because I was alone. playing around in the woods on basicly street tires that they call ATs. went down this one trail and got stuck. well almost, I got out after some coersing and 15 minutes. had fun but I really didnt want to walk. definitely need to get some tires, the Firestone Destination LTs just dont work, and I knew that when I saw them. (wife put them on the truck when I was out at sea for a surprize). NEVER let a city woman buy tires for you. NEVER. anyway, just had to share this little adventure.
sigh, no, but I'll dig out my camera and try and post the after effects. whats worse is there was no one else be me to take any action shots. and it was like muddy/sand if that makes any sense.

My advice would be to buy a winch first. Better tires can get you stuck worse. If you ride alone, a winch qualifies as survival equipment.
When the LTs wear out, buy M/Ts.
tires help but how u drive the tireas ya got is part of the game diferent tire diferent line!!!
What kind of tires you looking for?
Res, loved to get a winch, I'd like to put a receiver hitch on the front so I could use one of the craddle units that use those. they hold an 8,000 lbs. winch would should be plenty for the truck.
Twisted, I know all about the line you need to take, I just happened to stop where I shouldn't have, it was fun, hadnt been wheelin in a long time (5 yrs) but it came back quick.
Kevin, I'm planning on getting MTs just havent narrowed down a brand, I used to use BFGs all the time, back in the day, but now there are so many choices, I feel like the guy in the Prestone commercial. I've got some time to look.

You described
MY SETUP. (Click) I have a Harbor Freight $300 8K winch. It came with the channel you see in my build page (link). I already had plate bridging my frame to my bumper mounts as well as a grille guard. I simply built onto what I already had.
It is mounted right in front of the grille. It gives me maximum clearance and does not affect cooling at all.
Yes, that's it. I thought you had like an ARB bumper. thats a nice setup, do you have wiring at both ends? and how much difference is there in the frt end between yours and mine.

I haven't run the power to the back yet, but I plan to.
The only difference that I know of is the shape of our bumpers. Yours is broader, I think.
If you decide to do something like that, start a thread in the Nissan section. I can take pictures if you need me to. Better yet, find a way to make it to the next trail ride and see it in person.
