Temp. is 250, but it takes about 10 miles to get there. There is also a miss at low RPMs.
If the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is noticably cooler, the radiator and fan are probably working.
If the upper and lower hoses are BOTH too hot to hold your hand on, question the fan and radiator.
When hot, you can shut off the engine and try to turn the fan (clutch) by hand. It should be difficult. If it spins easily, replace it.
It is very possible that your radiator is not cooling enough. The aluminum radiator in my truck caused me MANY headaches before I finally changed it. I had no choice but to replace it. You see, I had replaced everything else including the head gasket. Flushing, even with chemicals, did not help.
I should have changed the radiator, I changed everything else when I rebuilt the motor. I just could not wait to get it running again, My bad.
I came home last night and got the Jeep running again.I found that the carburator was very loose. and the fan belt was to loose.After fixing these things and resetting my timing, it seems to be fixed.I let it idle for 10 minutes and drove it about 2 miles.The temp. was 190.
I have a broke brake hose on 1 side, a new 1 is on the way, then I will drive it some more to be sure. Thank every body for your input and suggestions. I will let you know by Friday.
So it was running too lean?? That will do it. Get it together for the next Laurel Trail Ride in June.
I hope to make it. Nothing like a real trail run to work out the bugs.
