I came across this article on bending and thought it was a good overview of how to do that sort of thing manually. These methods are pretty much what I do when forming tube. (Not that I have done a lot.) It might take some of the mystery out of it.
Either that or it may help you to appreciate what goes into a job like that. It is easy to see the value when you see how much planning and layout goes into it.
