i figure i may be able to help you out some. first thing u need to do is decide how u are gonna do it. meanin if u wanna do it all at once which i reccomend. u need to start gathering parts its better to do it right the first time. if ur gonna b doin some serious wheeling u need to get u a dana 60 high pinion out of a 79 ford F-350 single wheel. if ur not gonna wheel it hard get a dana 44 out of a 79 ford f-250 single wheel. its best to go on an go 8lug so u will need to also get u a full-floating 14bolt 10.5in ring gear avoid the 9.5in 14 bolt they suck!!!!!!!!!!! then decide what sas kit u want bein that ur truck is a newer model i would go with offroadunlimited's kit. its the best kit for ur model truck that ive seen. then decide how much lift u want keep in mind that the sas kit will give u 2-3in alone so if u run 6in springs u will have 8-9in of suspension lift an ur 3in body for a total of 11-12in of total lift. u will also need 8 lug rims avoid 15in rims as they wont fit over the from axles brake calipers. both the ford dana 44 and dana 60 use dual piston calipers. u will also need to ditch ur steering an go with x-over steering. an u will need new drive shafts of course an u will need to regear the axles depending on what size tires u wanna run. keep in mind that a SAS is a major modification an will set u back at least 7-8grand to do it correctly once u SAS u wont wanna go back.
my set up consist of high pinion dana 44 with chromemolly , 5.13gears and cross over steering with a PSC steering box 6in springs out of and 86 chevy truck. custom d shafts NP-241 transfercase with a slip-yoke eliminator 14 bolt rear axle with a spool an 5.13s an 5.5in springs on the rear with a shackle flip an 3in body for a total lift of 12-13in with 44-18.50 tsl's an trimed fenders an they still rub. i have about 10grand total in mine!!!!!!! if you have any other questions just lemme know ill try to monitor this post for ya

Hunter is right about the calipers but most people that want to run 15" wheels just grind the calipers down to fit.

That is correct you will need a ford front axle if you want to keep your drivers drop transfer case. Preferably a 78-79 dana 44 or 60. Depending on your wheelin will help you decide on which axle. Now if your transfer case is a auto trac it will have to be changed. As for 1000 to 1500 to do it, i would say not even close. Im in the process of doing a SAS on a 1995 K1500 and am about 3000 into it and not even close to being done.
