The paint on my door hinges is bubling and theres a little rust on them and i want to paint them black. I was wondering if any of you guys have done this. What's the best way to take them off so the doors will line up when i put them back on? Also whats the best way to go about painting them (prep, kind of paint, etc)? I know I wont be able to paint them as good as a shop could but I want to get the best result possible. Also is it possible to Rhinoline them and have a good finished product? Thanks in adnvance for the help.
the only way to paint them and keep the bubbling from coming back is to sand all the old paint and rust off. then spray them with a couple coats of primer. get zinc chromate primer if you can. you can fine it in spray cans sometimes. then give them a few coats of spray paint. if you get trash or a run just sand it smooth and give it another coat. its best to use several light even coats then to try and cover everything with one heavy coat.
Just take them off. Its a Jeep.
Do not overtighten the nuts when putting them back on the little bolts are VERY easy to break off
That would help.
