next weekend i'm buy an air compressoer that i will be putting in the garage, it runs off of 220v and the only thing in the garage is 110v. well not really, the hot water heater also runs off of 220v and the compressor will be going right next to it, but it's plug runs into some box on the wall...
anyway, what will i need to put a new outlet in the garage? a breaker, 10/3 wire, a box, and the outlet?
yep thats pretty much all you need. just make sure that there is room in the breaker box for the new one to be added and make sure you get the right style of breaker for the box. other than that its all pretty simple
just don't run your compressor off the same feed as your water heater cause you'll trip it ever time. if your heater is heating water and your compressor kicks on you'll trip the breaker. you should have a 30 or 40 amp breaker for your heater. if you want to do it that way then just found out what your compressor amp draw is and and and them together and get that size breaker and replace it in the breaker panel where your Hot H20 heater breaker is. your wire size should be ok cuase its not like your gonna be running both at the same time all day long.
