A really muddy trip out for the weekend, let it set for a few weeks before washing, and you'll get use to it being dirty and scratched up.
Actually, I use a scrub brush with a mild detergent, usually a dish washing detergent like Palmolive. That is what I've used for the last 10 years on the Jeep and the last 35ish years on everything else. I did, however, use a little powdered Comet with the scrub brush this last time. Just don't scrub the windows! See below. It took me 3 weeks to get time to wash it. I thought I took a few shots with the top on after I got it cleaned up, but guess not. You can still mud in the grain of the top in places, but the color helps hide it. This top is 7 years old now and has quite a few muddy stains in it.

use castrol super clean in th purple jug on any type of canvas, stuff is awesome!!

i am +1 on the super clean..
if you dont have any, i like simple green a little better, b/c it is enviornmentally sound....
soak it up and pressure wash it.....you won't be dissappointed....
