Oh yeah. I used the plastic keeper, AND a zip tie. The plastic piece keeps the metal on metal contact from wearing parts out. The zip tie just keeps the rod from popping out of the keeper. And X2 on the duct tape. I lost a lock-out tool in my friends door the other day (after unlocking the truck) and still have the scars to prove that I was in there...

The rod clips look like this. They are usually at Auto Zone in the little packages over there with the replacement door handles & pedal pads. For goodness sakes don't weld or JB it
