When I bought some new Pioneer 4 x 6" speakers, I did some research, looking for some information and started reading where adapters were needed to install after market speakers in the dash of the Jeep. I pulled the stock speakers and noticed that mine didn't fit in the same location, even with the mounting plate that came with the speakers.

I wasn't going to order some special plates to mount mine with, so after looking at the situation, I found that a special plate wasn't needed. I have included pics to show what I did.

Removed stock speakers. I took the 4" disc grinder and cut the old speakers out of the stock mount.

I set them side by side, one before cutting and one after.....

That left the stock mounts ready for the holes to be drilled and the new speakers to be mounted to them.

Simply solder the wires to the harness, screw the new speakers back into the dash and turn on the music.
No extra money was spent on special mounts.

Strange, mine just bolted right in. But, within the last couple years, there has been an adapter introduced that allows a 5 1/4" speaker to be used in place of the 4X6.

Good job improvising.
Nice, now I know who to come see when it comes time to upgrade. (note to self.)
Very clever indeed! Yes
I had to do almost the same on my Z. stock speaker was 6.5 and the one I put in where 6.5,but could not get to bolt up. I ended up taking the stock plastic holder of and screwing the new speaker on, and then had to open the hole in the door up some more to fit with the new speaker that I screwed to the stock bracket. Gotta do with what ya got sometimes...lol
clever idea I must say
