Im looking into buy another Grand Chrokee, and tuning it into a trail rig/ daily driver. Does anyone no of any good shops in the Colorado area? Also, what are is the best route I should go with the truck.
Things I want to do:
Lift
would like a 35in tire
Gears
Lockers front and rear
winch bumper
winch
rear bumper w/tire carrier
roof rack w/ lights
skid plates
rock sliders
would like some sort of roll cage
fenders
My budget will be about $5000. I plan to have the work done, since I dont have time to do it myself. Is this possible, and am I missing something.
does the $5000 budget include the price of the jeep? if so you won't be able to get everything on your wish list. even if the jeeps price isn't included its going to be very hard to get all of that stuff done and pay a shop to do it. for instance a lift to clear 35s will run in the $1500 range. gears and lockers will be in that range too or more. winch bumper$500. winch 500-$1000. rear bumper another 500. plus skids and roof rack. and with that much lift you'll need a slip yoke eliminator and cv driveshaft $400. and with the price of steel a cage would start in the $1500 range. plus another $1000 for tires. plus shop rates to install all of the stuff above.
If you're REAL creative you can probably do it. I remember seeing a shop in Pogoso (SP?) if you know where that is. It was on the main highway going through town towards the ski resort up the mountain. They had several nicely built rigs outside.
The $5000 does not include the price of the truck. Also I will have more than likely have money if needed. I should have about $10000 to buy the truck and build. I am getting wheels and tires at cost.
going to be tuff shannon, what little is done to mine was over 5k
onboard air is a must (even though mine's broken at the moment), especially if you plan on going to the dunes with it. I set mine up with harbor freight compressor, viair tank and all accessories for under $200. It'll even run a thunder gun long enough to change a tire.
