I need to get my burb to Laramie to get the tranny fixed again. The problem is it is about a 65 mile trip through the mountains. To get it towed, will cost me about $400, after my insurance pays their part. The transmission is leaking from the plate where it connects to the transfer case. It completely empties out in about 10 mins. I was thinking about spreading the gasket sealant, that I have used to seal my diff covers, all over the plate, and try to drive the truck down there. Do you guys think this will work, as a temperary fix? Or does anyone have a better suggestion?
Thanks
Shannon
Show me a picture of what it looks like.
Also, can't YOU separate it and seal it? Is it more complicated than it sounds?
I will have to get pics tomorrow. Im not sure, but I think the plate is cracked, that is why it is leaking so bad. I just had it resealed, tranny flush, new tranny mounts, and new seals and o rings installed. Im thinking it had to be something with the work that was done. I only drove it from Laramie to walden, walden to laramie, and back again. It started to leak when I drove it home the last time. That was on saterday. I went on the trail ride on sunday. It was leaking, but not that bad.
I have an idea that involves a bicycle inner tube and a ratchet strap, but I need to see pictures first. :teef:
Man, the things you come up with. Are you any kin to McGiver. LOL
OK get several cans of degreaser clean the entire area. Apply JB WELD to every place you think it might leak out of. People laugh at the stuff but as long as the is not twisting force on the welded area the stuff is great we used it to "weld" all kinds of things in Iraq.
does the shop that did the work warranty their work? if they do i'd try to get them to pay to have it towed back to them and have them fix it again on their dime...
hang a slop bucket under the burb with a sump sump in it to catch and recycle the fluids back into the tranny or transfer case, which ever is leaking, that is, if you don't have the inner tube and ratchet strap.
if the shop won't do the work again...
it's not hard to do it yourself. just pull the t-case, pull the adapter, see if it's cracked and check the o-rings that goes on the side for the trans. if everything is good, put the adapter back on, put a bead of gray rtv on the adapter for the t-case, put the t-case back in, put the driveshaft back in, and fill with fluid...
