Hey can anyone help me my Cherokee alternator when out about a week ago well i bought one from O'Reilly and put it on and not my battery gauge jumps up and down and mt check engine light stays on and when I check it says alternator problem. But, I just put a new one on. I even took it back off put it back on making sure nothing is loose and not connected and everything is fine. When I go down the highway at night my lights blink low to high my gauge jumps up and down getting upset. If anybody can help me any help would be great. Thanks

First, clean and tighten your battery terminals. Weak connections can cause what you are describing.
If that does not cure it, go back to O'Reilly and ask them to check it while it is still in the vehicle. It may be a faulty unit.
I have tried cleaning to terminals nothing I checked everything but gauges still jump and my lights blink. Don't understand new alternator. I mean it holds charge but I don't like it jumping up and down and everything blinking when they check it it says holding charge 14volts but when I go down the highway its starts acting up I have to fix it don't like it at all.
take it off and have it tested, might have gotten a bad one from the parts store.
mine done the exact same thing, i had to REPLACE the terminals
My battery and battery terminals are new. they work fine something about the alternator it's on of those u give them your old one they give u a core charge and it's like a remanufactured one's but it's acting the same fine old did when it was going out they put it on the test system and it said fail fail fail and just bought this one and gauges move uup and down lights blink and all connections are tight and nothing loose.
Sounds like a bad ground connection, or a faulty voltage regulator on you rebuilt alt. Take it back. I used to work for one of those retail parts chains. They can test almost everything they sell.
the voltage regulater could also do what your discribing as well
yea I was thinking it sounded like the voltage regulater.
ok, i went down to oreilly were I bought the alternator at they told me crank it up and tested it and they said the test says it is fine holds charge. But, when I go down the highway my battery gauge starts going up and down and lights flicker. But, they say everything is ok i don't understand. It can't be ok do ya'll still think it's alternator and maybe something else please let me know I got to fix this so I can get back on the trail.
