OK, yall. Stupid question. Is the d44 rear axle that comes in, say, a 05 rubicon the same d44 that was in a 87-89 cherokee? In other words, would the gears and lockers interchange? Not the ARB lockers that come in the rubicon mind you, but regular Detroit type lockers.
im wanting to say its a hybrid axle i dont think it will but dont hold me to it.

x2

i thought the new rubicon had a dana 30 or 35 i thought the only jeep that had the dana 44 was the old cj5 or cj7
Rubicon comes with D44 axles with lockers. I don't see why they wouldn't work, unless they changed designs on the axle.
alot of different jeep models had dana 44's. pre 76 cj's and some 86 cj7's. some early mj/xjs and alot of the full size jeeps.as well as some tj's. all tj rubicons had 44's front and rear with 4.10 and air lockers. i know that the rubi's take a special rubicon gearset but not sure if they will take a standard locker. you might want to call a shop that specializes in that sort of thing
im more of a toyota guy so im with nismo on this one
and easy way to check would be to either call Jackson Power Train and talk to Danny or go to autozones website and find the parts and compair the part numbers. I do that and that at least gets me on the road to researching if things work together or not.

I did, and wouldn't you know it, they don't match up. Dang! And I got a friend thats a Jeep mech and can sometimes get me parts for cost. And while we are on the subject, anyone here running a True Track (sp) locker? Thats what Jackson Power Train wants to sell me. Seems kinda pricey. Anyone got an opinion?
