IÂ’ve never had one on a TJ. I read that you have to add a channel. My question is does this channel stay on or do you have to take it on/off each time you put the hardtop on?
Also, what bikini top do I want?

I recommend one that offers good support, yet is revealing enough to turn heads. Avoid strapless ones.
Bikini tops are generally sold as part of an entire bikini 'set', but feel free to mix and match to suit your mood.

yep, gotta have the channel. it just screws in over the windshield, and yes, you do gotta take it off to put on either the soft or hard top. its litterally a 1 minute process. i had a Bestop Bikini. great coverage for front and rear passengers and strapped down on the back. no flapping around in the wind.
The wife bought me a safari top & a screen bikini top for birthday (bless her darlin' heart). Both are Bestop and both work with the same header bar, which does have to come off before the hard top goes back on, but it's a breeze. The header bar has a couple clamp brackets with a 1/2" bolt that tighten into the slots that the hardtop latches go into. Since she also bought me a hoist-a-top, I can snatch the hardtop off, put the header bar on, and have either top on in 20-30 minutes. Nuttin' to it!
Same here Goldy, my wife is wanting me to give her a few ideas for birthday and Christmas. She is the best...
Get the Bestop Safari with the "DRILL IN STYLE" windshield header. You put the header on one time and forget it. If you go for the 'NO DRILL" style, you will have to put it on and take it off every time you use your regular rag top. Then you have to store the No Drill Header somewhere when you take it off. I thought I wanted the NO Drill until I got it. I sold it 2 days after I got it and ordered the Drill Style.
Note: Make sure you get the right top for the right header. There is a big difference in the two tops. One will not fit the other.
I did the no drill. You have to remove it to put the regular top back on, but it only requires you to loosen 1 bolt on each clamp.
Storage is an issue. If you want to take it with you and be able to change tops, it will fit behind the rear seat. I usually don't take my bikini top with me to change. It's one, the other, or nothing at all.

Spoiled - does the safari top with the "drill-in" header have a 12" piece of fabric that wraps around the roll bar over the door openings? That's the one complaint I have with my no-drill style. That wide wrap-around thing gets in the way of my oh-crap handles.
I attach mine to the door surrounds and fold the wrap around pieces back under, but, then again, I have half doors.

Mine don't get in the way of anything. I tuck the flaps under the door surround anchors and I don't know they are there any more. My top stretches out and fit into the door surrounds for a tight custom look. I love my S.T.
It' is what I use most all summer long when I'm not going topless. With the drill style header, I put it up once and never have to deal with it again. When I want my top on I pull it from behind the seat, slap it on. To take it off, just unstrap, pull it off, roll it up and tuck it behind the seat again. I just bought my boss one too. You'll really like em.
