I was running a crane today on a site building a 250' cell tower for AT&T. The tower crew that was there should not be allowed to own a cell phone, and certainly not be TRYING to put a tower up. This crew was outta Georgia and they didnt know their head froma hole in the ground. We were working on a 20' section, getting it ready to fly up and set. They were having trouble getting the braces to line up, so they had the bright idea of standing the piece uright without the braces in place. I stopped the lift and told them it was not a wise choice. Guess they figured a dumb crane operator dont know jack. My rigger told them the same thing. It fell on def ears. They wanted it upright, so up I went. What you see in the pic is a complete 20' section of an AT&T tower after it colapsed in on itself. All the braces and main beams were twisted warped and bowed. These idiots put come-a-longs on it and forced everthing back together. So the next time you driving past a 3 leg free standing tower, think to yourself.... I wonder if all the braces are straight?
