So i fired up my Yota to move it around in my yard cause well my yard is soggy and a mess from this weather. Anywayz i end up getting stuck and started spinning my rear wheels in the slush that is my yard. So i lock it into 4 hi and nothing comes up on the dash saying it was locked in but i did a some kinda noise from the motor lol. Anywayz as i tried to pull up and what not my rear tires stayed spinning but my fronts never seemed to wanna spin at all. they just didnt seem like they were moving any. Is my tranfer case and 4wd gone?? this yota doesnt have manuel hubs on it either it has the auto locking hubs with a floor shifter. Im just wondering is there another way to check and see if my 4wd is working cause i couldnt seem to get my front tires to turn any at all. Is there something else i can look at first to check that out. If it is out i guess when i tear into the motor i will fix or replace the tranfer case. any help or ideas would be kool thanks
Check the vacuum hoses and you can look at it this way if there was no grinding it is a very good thing or a very bad thing.
I would suspect that the auto hubs need servicing.

ya maybe they do. i gonna try and do some research on them iv never really fooled around with them. i always have had manual hubs and wish this truck had them.
i highly agree with res.
take the auto hubs off, and put manuals on.
I'm with Res but was your front driveshaft turning if it was you know the problem

i dont really know if the front shaft was turning or not to be honest. how hard of a operation would it be to swap it to manual hubs?

I am not an expert on this but there is nothing inside the Hub on auto hub Toyotas, in fact the only difference between the auto and manual hub on a Toyota is the hub itself, in other words auto hubs are just like locking in manual hubs and driving around all the time. I am not saying the hubs aren't the problem but I would definitely try the simple things first and I know people have problems with vacuum hoses on Toyotas.

On a Tacoma all you have to do is find a truck with manual hubs and change out the axles, spindles and hubs. I am sure it would be something similar on the Pre-Taco. Check out TTORA.com there is lots on info on there about all kinds on toyotas.
