I know that Taco Supreme did the swap on his tacoma and he could probably give you some more insight.
I am not familiar with the Yota auto hubs in particular. The Nissan autos are simple, as you describe, but if they are not clean an lubed, they can be slow to engage and disengage.
So, have you determined if the drive shaft is turning?
