Hey guys how hard is it to swap a front Dana 44 in the front of a cherokee and ford 9" or 8.8" in the rear. Will probably never do it with my budget. But, if I can find some cheap axles from pull-a-part I would think about it.

screw that. Go witht the new 609 hybrid axle. Its a new one that takes the center section and tubes of a Ford 9" rear end with Dana 60 knuckles on the ends. It is super sweet
What kinda price range is that looking at man?
a good bit more than a d44. It shouldn't be to terribly hard. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, what all tools you have and etc. What size tires you plan on running? The d30 should be alright for 33's. To put the 8.8 in the rear of it you have to cut the spring perches (Spring over or under?) and allign the axle & point the diff and weld the perches. I don't know about the brakes they just bolted up on mine but I have a bronco.

They should call it a "69".Smile
lol as much as they cost you should at least get a 69 out of it

I know some cherokees had a D44 rear in them from the factory. These will swap into a YJ. That being said, a ford 8.8 will too. I don't see where it would be a huge difference to swap the 8.8 into your cherokee. M.O.R.E. sells a kit for the 8.8 swap for the YJ. Might work for a cherokee too.
Awesome thanks man
good deal on the 44 from the xj

this unit will bolt in but u will need to regear and all that fun stuff- same bolt pattern (i have the same axle)

a 44 in the front u will need the brackets for control arms and track bar and either convert lug pattern or get new wheels
