I just fixed a computer with some similar problems. The mouse lit up but never moved, no matter what mouse you installed or what USB port you put it on. Come to find out it was eat-up with viruses and spyware. If you can, run a virus check on it and then get Ad-Aware 2008 from lavasoft and see if that helps your problem.

Try to download and reinstall the usb drivers...we had several Dell desktops at work with this problem, and that fixed them.

The only software I really ever use is Microsofts Antispyware and AVG antivirus. I clean a lot of computers and by far they do the best for me. I simply HATE Ad-ware
And the best part is both of the pieces of software I use are 100% free. No trial crap or popup boxes saying you need to get the full version.

I'm with you, Chris. The older versions of Ad-Aware were great, but the last two or three have sucked canal water.

Agreed, I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Super Anti-Spyware. I know they have free trials, but they were able to remove Spyware Guard 2008 and Antivirus 2009 from a couple of machines. Ad-Aware would see them and remove them, but not remove the original threat.
