My jeep needs a new transfer case and i'm really not willing to spend the money for someone else to do it since i can probably do this myself in the garage. First off, about how hard would it be to switch it and i think this is the NP207 transfer case. Second, does anybody have a good one on here, or know of a good reliable place to get one?
its a np231. and they aren't hard to swap out. what is wroung with the one you have?
well, my sister is driving it so there may be problem number one. But, possibly the real problem is the previous owner's lack of up-keep on the Jeep. It may have been run with out fluid for a while and the chains have just gone to the dumps. But, all in all, it definitely needs to be swapped out.
haha well it is not funny but i gernaded my first np231 doing the same thing - there is no warning light for the fluid level in jeeps and my chain was slapping around big time and it ruined the crap out of it - found one from a wrecked TJ for 100 and put a SYE on it from PORC and bolted it up for under 400 - my local 4x4 shop in ATL did the labor and I helped - never doing that again! the old case had a RE hack and tap on it too... forgot to get it when i left the old parts
Yeah, well apparently i'm trading her my mustang for the jeep tomorrow so i'm going to fix this thing so that it won't break again. Are there any precautionary measures that i can take when swapping this out? What kind of kits should i just go ahead and get to make it better?

if u can still use the case the best thing to do is the HD upgrade kit but if it is toast then finding a good used 231 should be pretty easy
