Ok for overhead lifting what is best? I think everyone is going to say hoist, but here are the plans for it. Will be mounted in the attic over the garage, will lift mainly the hard top but could serve as a misc. lift. I can get a 1300 lb hoist for $160 from harbor freight, or a 1500lb 120v electric winch from harbor freight for $115.
What should I get?
My HF winch is in the attic, I use it to lift the hardtop off all the time and love it. If you are going to be pulling motors get yourself a cherrypicker.
I hope I won't be pulling motors, but thats cool that yours is mounted in the attic, no problems with it or anything?
Now to splurge and get it, or wait 9 weeks till my birthday .. hrm, choices.

Sweet dude, thanks! I'm off till the 5th of Jan and it takes a tenderloin about 2 hours on the smoker, a rack of ribs about 3 hours, and a boston butt about 8 hours. Let me know and I'll get you some!
I also went to HF and bought the 800# winch and mounted it in the attic. I cut a hole in the carport ceiling and dropped the cable and control down through. When I had the house wrapped in vinyl siding, they doctored up the hole in the ceiling very nicely. I use it to load and unload the 150# generator, the 5th wheel hitch and other things. Money well spent.
