well i deleted the last post because i figured people would get all upity about it. what i was saying is that it is wrong for them to wait for speeders when the interstate drops from a 70 to a 50. some people have thier cruise set at 70 and then they get a ticket for 20 over. 7 cops had people pulled over when i crossed over the hill.

I am in agreement based on this: I feel that if there is a place where people get caught speeding because of an unusual (non-typical) drop in speed limit, and the police use it to their advantage to set up a speed trap, then that is a crime, in my eyes. Instead, something should be done to fix the need for the slow-down.
The Laurel S-curve is one that comes to mind. Granted, that was not an easy problem to fix, but the signage itself is deceptive. Two 10mph drops in a row with standard signs on the inside of the curve only. People just don't see them, plus they don't make sense because there is no indication of a REASON to slow down until way past the speed signs.
It is a case of police preying on travelers.

I was going to say, don't they drop in 10 MPH increaments?
One of the rules of the road is to pay attention. Don't get me wrong, I get tickets also but the way I look at it is like this, It is just catching up to me for all the times I didn't get a ticket from speeding. And as most of you know I don't really drive that fast, I actually drive like PAW PAW.

I agree, If your speeding then your breaking the law. Just keep your eyes open for the signs and the Po Po's hiding on the side of the road. I know the road you get on to get to our street always has a police officer hiding in the trees around the bend where no one can see them. You just have to not speed. And I speed, I just dont do it when I am out of town, where someone could be hiding and waiting.

Speed limits on the interstate should be done away with, IMO. Speed limits are fine in residential areas and on the highway because people live there and there are kids running around. However, I have yet to see a house located on the interstate. IMO, speed limits are only on the interstate to make money. Plain and simple. The only reason the mandatory seat belt law is in effect is because the Feds refused to give the state funds if they were not in place. Now then, last time I checked, I was somewhat grown. I work for a living, and I pay taxes. I should be able to make the decision to wear my seat belt if I want to. I should be able to go as fast as I want to on the interstate. Whats the point of buying a car that will do 100 mph, if I can't do it? Now, don't anybody start with the whole "It's a safety issue". I have seen what no seat belt and excessive speed can do. Look at Germany, and the Autobahn. You actually get a ticket for not going fast enough. You get a ticket for not staying on the right side of the road if your not going fast enough so the other cars can go around you safely. Also, a DL costs about 800 bucks or so, so the idiots that can't afford them don't drive. I cant stand it when memaw is in the left lane. I hate it when big rigs roll in the left lane for miles trying to pass the other rig. Get out of my way!! Now, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I am well aware that we have cops on this board, and I don't want to make anyone mad. Again, this is my OPINION. I also don't think that it's fair that $5, I think, of every ticket written in the state goes to the MHP retirement fund. Not cool. What about the other police and sheriff depts? I'll tell you something else, off topic. Did you know that part of the money that firefighters pay for their pretty little car tags is supposed to go to the burn center? But there is no burn center anymore. So where does the money go?? The whole system needs to be revamped. Sorry, I didn't mean to go off.

I've been very fortunate in the last 25 years of my life. I've been stopped several times, but due to my very respectful attitude toward the officer and the officer obviously having a good day, I didn't have to pay any fines.
I usually take the back roads to Lower Alabama when we go, and there are some ugly spots along the way, but they usually have reduce speed ahead, or speed zone ahead or start dropping the speed in increments, so I've learned to watch for them. I still find myself in another world sometime and see the second or third speed sign after I have been speeding through. Again, just been lucky. Now, I'll probably get two on the way home today.
