If anyone has a 1st gen XJ with cut fenders - not butchered, but cut and folded the right way - I would like to get measurements of the expanded wheel openings. If you're close by, I can come do it myself, but if not I would like the following measurements:

For the front-
1)distance from sidemarker housing to front edge of fender opening
2)distance from bottom of rear edge of fender opening to rear edge of
fender panel
3)distance across flat of opening at top (parallel with hood)

For the rear-
1)distance from bottom of rear door to front edge of bottom of fender
opening
2)distance from bottom of rear edge of quarter panel to bottom of
rear edge of fender opening
3)distance across the flat of opening at top (parallel with rear quarter
window)

This needs to be from a pre-97 model. I am going to try to find a set of donor flares from some other vehicle to put on after cutting fenders. I like the idea of cutting to gain tire clearance without raising center of gravity, I just don't like the way it looks. But I ain't paying $450 for Bushwhackers!! If it would be easier, you could trace the opening's outline on a piece of cardboard or posterboard, transfer it to paper, and mail it to me. Just make sure to get one template for front and one for rear. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Wanna do something different, but I wanna make sure I can make it look good before I break out the cutoff wheels!!
Look at these picture where I done mine. I did not take much time since it is just a trail rig but you get the idea. Alot of people use TJ flairs top cover them back up.

mine is a mj but the process is basically the same. on the rear you can only go so far then the inner and outer fenders are too far apart to get a good bend. and on the front i marked around the outside of the stock flares and that is where i made my cuts. Glad you asked that question I been wondering how to do mine as well
Thanks for the answers, guys. I have read how to do it on several write-ups. I understand how to do it and how much to cut, bend, etc. What I want to know is how big the opening is after it is done. I want to be able to look around a junkyard and find a flare off another type vehicle that will cover up the new opening. I've seen the tj flares and just don't really like the way they look...doesn't really match the body style to me. I need pretty good measurements or a template I can hold up to another flare to see if it will do what I want.
i put my stock ones back on with some self tapers the worked pretty good
Jpg511, where are you located? I'd be willing to come look at yours myself if you're close enough. Did you cut the rears? It looked like you did in some of your pics, but there were no close shots of it getting done like the front ones.
i live in Mobile and I am offshore right now. But the rear I done the same way. Cut up the the pinch weld and bent it over.
That's kinda far...anybody close to Jackson?
Use your stock ones over 601 just trim them to match your cut
