A friend asked me to post this for him tonight because his DSL is not hooked up at his new house yet. His Bronco is givin him fits. Heres the deal. it will crank and idle fine. pull out on the road and give it the go juice and it will start to spit sputter hesitate and backfire. If ya ease up on it to around 1/4 throttle it will ease out and accelerate, but give it more gas and the same thing happens. It will accelerate at 1/4 throttle until it shifts and the RPM,s drop, then it starts it again and ya have to feather the throttle to get it to start pickin up again. Overdrive, forget about it. 95 Ford 5.8, new fuel filter, no cats. Any suggestions or ideas?
Checked fuel psi?
Try searching fullsizebronco.com they have a tech section. This has saved me alot. Search is the key.

I'd check the tps first..

Definately check the fuel pump (didn't think of that) very prone to going bad.
I just did a fuel pump in a 99 Z71 that was doing the samething, once I changed the pump it started running fine
I was gonna say cats stopped up, but nevermind.

Rangerjones

had a cousin that had water in his fuel and his truck did something like that
Had that problem on two different vehicles, on the 98 Z71 it was the Fuel Pump and on an 02 Explorer it was water in the Gas, Ran 1 can of Seafoam in it and it got alot better and ran a second can of seafoam on a fresh tank of Premium and never had the problem again!!
Tra needs to trade it for a JEEP! ha ha
Have him pull codes, Rich. After that, he needs to replace the fuel filter & check his timing.

The codes will usually tell you what's wrong, AIC, TPS, etc.. It'd doubtful that the fuel pump is bad, but stranger things have happened.
