anyone ever saw an xj coil spring collapse while muddin? my bud claims his did, i told him to check to make sure something wasnt keeping it from recoiling, sounds like something got it in a bind. what do ya'll think?
nope never seen one collapse. the coil might have broken but there isn't any way for it to just collapse unless it had been heated with a torch or somethin
never heated, its a 3in rough country lift spring, and even if it broke it wouldnt look compressed, he said all the coils are touching
no tellin. hard to tell whats goin on without seeing it
I agree with you, Matt. I would expect something to be binding. Maybe a bent shock or something?

A whole lot of potential energy just sittin there waitin to be turned loose. Hope there isnt a body part in the way when it does!
Could be hung up on the bumpstop, or sway bar or sway bar link. There's very little clearance between the swaybar and link end and the coil. It's possible he bent or broke the swaybar and pushed it into the coil. I'd check there first. Then check to see if control arm mounts or mounting bolts are broken and control arms are binding. Above all, he needs to be REALLY careful when jacking, prying, or banging.
