I have an 84 f-150 with and automatic i think its and c4 I had some trouble on a lonely dirt road when i crossed some water flowing over the road i eased down in it only a few inches deep then up to the floor boards. then it went dead. It sat for just a min before i got it to crank back drove it out and now it wont shift above 2nd gear. It did get a little water in it. so i changed the filter and fluid but it still stays in second. I really could use some help with this if there are any ideas please let me know!!!
check the modulator valve on the side of the transmission, it's a vacum actuator with a vacum line. pull the line and see if it has water in it . this part can be changed fairly cheap and easily. if not it may be contaminants in the valve body. also check your vacum lines for leaks or damage, this will cause eratic shift.
