I am narrowing in on a date for the backpacking trip to my secret spot by the creek in Wayne County. I will post all of the info once I have nailed down a date.
Not doing this==>> [SIZE="1"][I plan to take off work one Friday so that we can be back by Saturday noon-ish.][/SIZE] Planning instead to leave around midday on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, so we can come back on Monday.
I am doing this because I have guys at church who want to go. Our pastor and our youth minister are both going. Probably a couple of others.
I am looking at Labor day weekend, (4th-5th) . Also looking at another trip on Oct. 11th - 12th, which is Columbus Day.
Can't make either of those...and don't have any vacation left anyway. It'll be cooler the second one, but maybe too cool to play in the creek.
You can't make it because of the Friday, or are you out for the entire weekend/s?
I am rethinking this. The kids will be back in school, so Friday is a bad idea.
Now I am thinking that we could meet up around 1:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, and come back on Monday (Labor Day).
Who can make it if we do that?

I can't take off any more days, since we are going to Baltimore for Thanksgiving. I can't do Labor Day weekend, because of coordinating a dove hunt with a friend (that's opening weekend).
I have conflicting stuff going on labor day weekend so couldn't maake that but so far the second dates look open
The only way I could do the second date would be to do the Friday-Saturday thing. If we take off on a Friday, I would want to head out in the morning while it is still cool out. I just don't know about pulling the boys out of school for the day. Not the end of the world, I suppose. What are your thoughts on that?
I could get them early. That would be no sooner than 2:00 though.
His mother would have my a$$ for pulling him out of school to go backpacking. He has enough problems with his grades and keeping focus on his school work as it is without me sending that message. She does the homework thing with him every day and I can just hear it now; his every little stumble would be my fault for the rest of the year.
Seriously though it sounds like a fun trip; would be nice to be able to work it out; if not this time then sometime soon. Labor Day weekend we have family coming in from out of town and are obligated for the weekend. I think the kids get off Columbus Day don't they; what about then? I don't mind taking a day off from work; school on the other hand, especially that early in the year when they are combating the summer slide I feel a little different about.
Columbus Day is a great idea. That would be Sunday Oct 11th into Monday 12th. That sounds like a winner, for sure.
I suppose I will plan on doing one on Labor day the same way. It's a shame that you and 601cherokee are out for that weekend. Can't win 'em all.
