Well it could be a CV joint but since it started when they changed the tires IÂ’d probably look at the brakes first; assuming youÂ’re convinced that the tires are actually properly balanced. Without seeing it and checking it, IÂ’m just thinking in terms of what they touched when putting on the tires that could cause a shimmy and the axle shouldÂ’ve been safe from their prying hands, the brakes however would not be. Again this goes back to the information given that the shimmy did not exist until they put the tires on.
Thanks guys. I'll let her know. If you have other ideas, please share them.
I would check the steering and suspension parts first, along with the CV axles. I say that because it goes away when she lets off the throttle. (?)
Under power, loose steering parts will allow the wheels to toe in, which can start a death wobble. (Think in terms of front wheel drive.)

As I said earlier, the CV axle would have to be pretty bad to cause a shimmy.

Why did she get new tires? Were they worn strangely, indicating front end problems?

Just a few more thoughts. (Not disagreeing about the brakes.)
Thanks, Res and others. I appreciate all of your suggestions. I'm passing them all along to her.

Uh huh; armchair mechanic trying to out diagnose me huh? Sticktongue I see you coming a mile away with your non clicking (he didnÂ’t mention any clicking did he?) bad CV joints. LMAO

Seriously though I feel bad for the girl; all she needed was tires when she went into the place and when she came out her car shimmies for some unexplained reason and since then sheÂ’s gotten the run around (its your transmission, no itÂ’s the tires, no its your frontend). Sometimes things break while youÂ’re working on a personÂ’s car I get that, but if something breaks while youÂ’re working on it; to me you have an obligation to at least diagnose it for them. Guess I feel like the tire shop should be doing more for her.
Tire shops usually offer to do an alignment. I wonder if they did, and if she let them.
swap the tires around and see what it does
