I'm trying to make an extension cord that goes from a 30 amp plug to a 50 amp receptacle. The welder has the 50 amp plug on it and the 220 outlet is a 30 amp, when I plug in the welder it turns on, but it doesn't feed any wire and when I touch the door on the side it shocks me, Also when I touch the box that the receptacle is in I get alittle shock. Could it just be that the receptacle has a little ground strap and that's grounding it out, or is it something else?
def. sounds like a grounding issue
check and see if the wire feed is pluged in on the inside of the welder
Well, I took the grounding strap off the receptacle and now it clicks when I pull the trigger for the welder, but still doesn't feed any wire. I guess I'll have to take the cover off the welder and check everything in there...
