guys i have gotten my new motor installed and every thing is ready except when it cranks it loaps for a second and dies again ive replaced most every thing its an 83 ranger with a 2.3 carburated
Squirt some fuel down its throat to see if it runs longer. If manual fuel injection works, you have a fuel problem, such as a stuck float or clogged jet.
Look for big vacuum leaks, too.
If that does not work, hit it with a hammer and try again.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Have you checked the timing?

x2..
its static timed it hasnt stayed running long enough to put the light on it
did you install the timing belt/chain?
No, he left it on the bench.

:j/k:
Are you thinking incorrect valve timing?
Kris, try rotating the dist a few degrees at a time and keep trying. See if it gets better or worse, and go from there.

haha

, I meant did he install it or was it already installed on the engine when he got it. I did some looking around on other forums and came to the conclusion that if he installed the timimg belt that some times when you release the tensioner it will allow the cam to roll over one tooth
yea i installed it and yea if you have it tighter on one side than the other it will move a tooth or two last night i did some adjusting to the distributor and got it to crank up and run for a few minutes at a time im getting white smoke and a pop like a miss fire and my timing light is cutting out like it is jumping fire
