The Flaming Marshmallow Vortec evolution thread
It started with a realization that the Z24i was nearing the end of its life because it was using 2 1/2 qts of oil to 12 gallons of gas. So I started this thread: http://mississippi-mud.com/Thread-Re-pow...arshmallow

Then came the confirmation that my hunch was right.
http://mississippi-mud.com/Thread-The-Fl...#pid271521

Then came more confirmation that this is meant to be. khoward gave me a great deal on his Z71 with 5.3L Vortec, 4l60E automatic, and 4wd. High mileage, but it all works, and has everything I need for my swap.

Sorry for the bad pictures, but I always get stuff at night. I don't know why. Shrug

So it's GAME ON! Dvdswan, the challenge to finish just got real. Sneaky

I will start stripping and prepping the FM first, and planning the swap. I will probably tag and insure the Z71 for a while to work out any issues, and to lead the Laurel Expedition 9.

I'm excited. Hyper

Going to have to change front springs to support the extra weight?

Too early to know what all I will use or not. What I will do for now is start a "dibs list" in the first post. Then, if I don't use it, I will go back through the list. I won't throw away anything that can be used by someone here.
But be advised; the body and other stuff that I don't need is expected to help fund the project. I was planning to part out the good body parts such as bed, doors, cab, etc. I doubt anyone will want it as a rolling chassis by the time I am done cutting out what I want. I plan to use the dash, cluster, and who knows what else. It won't be a truck without an engine. It will be a corpse.
What was it you are wanting? The frame and whatever is left?

Maybe. I will do some initial measurements before I pull the Nissan running gear. I don't think the Vortec is much heavier, though.

I've been wanting to make a truck bed trailer. So would want rear axle frame and bed.

RE: The Flaming Marshmallow Vortec evolution thread
If I can get a good price for the bed or axle, I will go for the higher return on investment, but when the FM is done, and those things are still lingering, you may get your wish.
I usually reach a point where it is time to clean up and call it done.

Here's what I found on the internet. (So it must be true)

Nissan Z24i engine 314 lbs
Nissan manual trans 77 lbs
t-case ? ______
Total 391 lbs

Chevy 5.3L 459 (automatic)
Chevy 4L60E trans 110
t-case ? ______
Total 569 lbs

Difference = 178 lbs

Horsepower:
Nissan 1984-1986 Power - 103 hp (77 kW) at 4,800 rpm Torque - 134 ft·lbf (182 N·m) at 2,800 rpm
Chevy 2000-2003 engines made 285 hp (213 kW) and 325 lb·ft (441 N·m)

Gain: 182 hp and 191 ft-lbs
2.77 times more HP (almost triple)
2.43 times more torque
